My mouse does not work properly.

You may need to clean your mouse if the pointer on the screen does not move smoothly.

NOTE: These instructions do not apply to optical mice.
  1. Turn off your computer.
  2. Turn the mouse over, top side down, and twist the retainer ring to the unlocked position.
  3. Place your hand over the bottom of the mouse and turn the mouse over, top side up, so that the retainer ring and ball fall out into your hand.
  4. Wash the ball in warm, soapy water and dry it with a clean cloth.
  5. Blow carefully into the ball cage to dislodge dust and lint.
  6. Look for a buildup of dirt on the plastic rollers inside the ball cage. This buildup usually appears as a stripe running across the middle of the rollers. If the rollers are dirty, clean them by using a cotton swab dampened with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol.
  7. Turn the rollers with your finger and continue swabbing them until all the dirt is removed. Be sure the rollers are still centered in their channels after you clean them.
  8. Remove any fibers from the swab that remain on the rollers and then replace the ball and the retainer ring.

Turn your computer back on.
